Nicole Kopyta began her role as an assistant coach for the Liberty women's lacrosse program in Sept. 2021.
Kopyta joined the Liberty staff after serving as an assistant coach for the past three seasons at Butler (2019-21). As a player, Kopyta was a member of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights program from 2013-18.
“I am beyond excited and honored to work for Coach Kelly and Coach Nina,” Kopyta said. “It is a huge personal step up in my career, and I am so thankful they took the chance on me. I am looking forward to hitting the ground running this year!”
During her time at Butler, Kopyta coached 114 BIG EAST All-Academic team honorees, 22 IWLCA Academic Honor Roll recipients, two BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honorees, two BIG EAST Attacker of the Week recipients, one BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and one BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week. Additionally, Butler received IWLCA Academic Honor Squad status in both of her years coaching the Bulldogs in which the award was handed out (2019 and 2021). Kopyta and the Bulldogs posted a 5-2 mark in a shortened 2020 campaign.
“I am really excited to add Coach Kopyta to our coaching staff. She is really passionate about the game and will bring a lot of energy and excitement to our team,” said Liberty Lacrosse Head Coach Kelly Nangle. “We are looking forward to working together to take our program to the next level.”
Kopyta was a four-year varsity letterwinner as an attacker for Rutgers from 2013-18. She finished her Scarlet Knights career with 37 goals and three assists for 40 total points. As a redshirt junior in 2017, Kopyta finished second on the squad with 24 goals and third in points with 25. She was named the team’s most improved player.
In the classroom, Koptya was a four-time Big Ten All-Academic team member and earned BIG EAST All-Academic team honors once as well. She earned Big Ten Distinguished Scholar accolades in 2017.
Kopyta earned a bachelor’s degree in communication and media studies in May 2017 from Rutgers. She also received minors in psychology and labor studies. Kopyta went on to earn a master’s degree in communication and media with a focus in organizational communication from Rutgers in August 2018.
In addition to her collegiate coaching experience, Kopyta served as a head coach for the Tri-State Lacrosse, a club based out of New Jersey. She also worked as a coach at the Gladiator School from 2015-18.
Kopyta currently resides in Lynchburg.
