Just over three months after wrapping up her playing career for the Lady Flames, Brittany Hoyt was hired as an assistant coach on head coach Carey Green’s staff. Now beginning her fourth season as an assistant coach, the former Brittany Campbell is the first former Lady Flame to coach at her alma mater since Tiffany Ratcliff in 1998-99.
During her first three seasons on staff, Hoyt has helped Liberty continue its tradition of success. The Lady Flames have recorded three consecutive 20-win seasons and swept the 2015 Big South regular-season and tournament titles.
Despite being limited to 64 total appearances by injuries during her five seasons on the team (2008-09 through 2012-13), Hoyt was looked up to as a leader by her teammates. She served as a rare four-year team captain, helping lead the Lady Flames to a 124-42 record during her career.
Hoyt finished her career with her best season as a redshirt senior in 2012-13, starting all 34 games for the Big South champion Lady Flames. She averaged 5.7 ppg and shot a team-best 43.2 percent (38-of-88) from three-point range.
The native of nearby Rustburg, Va., posted 10.0 ppg and shot 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from beyond the three-point arc, helping Liberty capture the 2013 Big South Championship title. As a result, Hoyt was named to the Big South All-Tournament team.
Hoyt also earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic team as a redshirt senior, as well as her fifth consecutive appearance on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology in May 2011 and completed her master’s degree in professional counseling in December 2013.
Hoyt is married to former Liberty men’s basketball player Tanner Hoyt, with the couple’s wedding taking place in June 2014. Hoyt also works for the Liberty athletic department, serving as assistant director of business operations/compliance.
