Myron Guillory enters his second season at Liberty, and is in his second coaching position as a member of head coach Dale Layer’s coaching staff. During the 2009-10 campaign, he worked primarily with Liberty’s guards, helping the Flames to 15 wins. One of Guillory’s position players, Evan Gordon, averaged 12.0 points per game en route to earning 2010 Big South All-Freshman Team and VaSID All-State Rookie of the Year honors, last season.
Guillory previously spent two seasons on Layer’s coaching staff at Colorado State. The Lake Charles, La., native returned to coaching last season, after spending two years working in his family’s business in his hometown.
“Myron played collegiately at Virginia Tech and has roots in this area,” said Layer. “He has recruited this region extensively. He brings stability, hard work, a great feel for the game and we are very fortunate to have him as part of the Flames coaching staff.”
Guillory was a standout basketball player for Virginia Tech during the mid-90s, helping the Hokies to the 1995 NIT Championship and the 1996 NCAA Tournament second round. While playing with the Hokies, he led Virginia Tech to its highest ranking in school history (8th) in 1996 and helped the team to a school-record 25 wins in 1995.
Guillory’s coaching resume began at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La., where he was an assistant coach for the Colonels, while handling recruitment, travel and film exchange.
Following his time at Nicholls State, Guillory served as an AAU head coach for the Boo Williams Summer League, where his duties included fundraising efforts for the league. In 2002, Guillory received a coaching position at Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C., where he spent three years. While at Campbell, his focus was on recruiting, scouting, instruction and overseeing team academics. He was also a coordinator for basketball camps for the Camels.
Guillory has a solid academic background as well, earning a bachelor’s of science degree in accounting from Virginia Tech and an MBA from Nicholls State. Myron and his wife, the former Courtney Ottley, have two children, a son, Mason (5) and a daughter Sadie (1).
