Chelsea Ndenga (formerly Mangino) has served in the role of Director of Basketball Operations for the program since 2016. Ndenga organizes travel and recruiting, runs summer camps, oversees team meals, handles scheduling, and helps make sure all aspects of the program run smoothly. In 2019, Ndenga was named to the NABC Under Armour 30-Under-30 Team.
Ndenga is one of 30 outstanding coaches in men's basketball under the age of 30. Ndenga was the only coach in the ASUN Conference to receive the honor in 2019 and became the first-ever in Liberty's history. Ndenga was just the second female ever to receive the honor by the NABC.
While earning a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a Master of Teaching in Elementary Education at the University of Virginia, Ndenga served four years (2010-14) as a student manager with the Cavaliers men's basketball program under Tony Bennett. After graduation, Ndenga spent a year teaching at an elementary school in Charlottesville. She then joined Coach McKay at Liberty in 2015 as a graduate assistant. Ndenga also completed a Master of Business Administration from Liberty in 2018.
Ndenga loves the Lord and is passionate about creating environments for people to thrive. Ndenga grew up in Colorado and is the daughter of longtime collegiate and professional men’s basketball coach, Larry Mangino, and educator, Ann Mangino. Her sister, Grace Mangino, was formerly on staff with Liberty Women’s Basketball.
Ndenga married Umwami Ndenga in Oct. 2024.
