The Liberty softball team has announced the addition of 2021 first team All-Big Ten slugger Lou Allan from Michigan. She is the third transfer to sign with Liberty for this season, joining previously-announced Raigan Barrett (Washington) and Janessa Plummer (Florida SouthWestern State).
Liberty also has an impressive incoming freshman class that includes previously-signed incoming freshmen Paige Bachman, Ava Cino, Hailey Deter, Lilly Heidorn, Kassandra Machado, Courtney Poulich, Rachel Roupe and Alexis Soto.
Allan comes to Liberty as a graduate transfer after earning first team All-Big Ten and first team NFCA All-Region honors and will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Allan (Michigan) and Barrett (Washington) were in opposing dugouts during the 2021 NCAA Seattle Regional final, which Washington won. These two players will now be teammates at Liberty.
Lou Allan (1B, Sr., Hesperia, Calif./Oak Hills (Michigan))
Lou Allan had a breakthrough season during her senior season at Michigan, batting .383 with a career-high nine doubles, 11 homers and a team-leading 45 RBI. She earned NFCA All-Great Lakes Region and All-Big Ten first-team honors this season, helping Michigan earn its third straight Big Ten Conference regular-season championship. The 2021 Wolverines went 38-8 this season, earning a spot in the NCAA Seattle Regional final. As a senior in high school, she was rated the No. 8 overall prospect in FloSoftball’s Hot 100 Rankings. She competed for Team USA in the 2017 Jr. Women’s Softball World Championship, helping the team to the gold medal. Allan’s grandmother, Sheila Cornell, is a two-time Olympic Gold medalist (1996, 2000).
The Lady Flames finished the 2021 season with a 44-15 record, including 16-2 in ASUN North Division play. Liberty, the No. 1 seed in the North Division, claimed its fourth conference tournament title by capturing the ASUN Softball Championship.
Competing in the NCAA Softball Championship for the fourth time, Liberty made its second appearance in a Regional final. The Lady Flames served as the No. 2 seed for the Knoxville Regional, eliminating Eastern Kentucky and the host No. 9 national seed Tennessee Lady Vols. Liberty fell to eventual Women’s College World Series semifinalist James Madison twice at the Regional.
Liberty continued its ascent as a program posting 40 or more wins for the fourth straight full season. The Lady Flames are one of just 10 NCAA Division I softball teams to win 40 or more games in each season from 2017-19 and 2021.
