Jamari Person: Little Details Make a Big Difference

In the world of sports, success is often measured by wins and losses, but for college student-athletes, it's the journey that truly defines their experience.

For me, the journey at Liberty has been one of camaraderie, growth and attention to detail.

As I enter my second year with the Flames, I'm excited to be part of a team that embodies these values and is hungry for success.

A Commitment to Team Camaraderie

One of the most significant differences I've noticed this season is the camaraderie within our team.

The coaching staff has recruited players who are not only talented but also share a common goal – winning.

There's a sense of unity and brotherhood among us, and we all play for each other. This collective buy-in is what sets us apart and gives us the belief that this year can be different.

Last season, we were involved in several close games, and it's easy to dwell on the "what-ifs." We are certainly not happy with a 4-8 season, and we know we missed the mark by not competing for the Conference USA Championship or even making a bowl game.

However, instead of dwelling on the past, we've chosen to focus on the little details that can make a big difference.

Our team's theme word for the season is – standard. The coaches have made it clear since early January what this program's standard is. I believe this group of players is ready to prove that Liberty Football can get back to the standard that it expects of itself and what our fan base has grown to love.

We understand that one play can win or lose a game, and we've honed in on paying attention to those small details.

It's about being disciplined and doing the little things right, both on and off the field.

Attention to Detail

For me, personally, this attention to detail has been critical.

As a wide receiver, it's not just about catching the ball; it's about making plays after the catch and being a game-changer.

I've been working hard this offseason to become an elite-level playmaker, stretching the field, and turning short gains into big plays.

It's about being consistent and always striving to get better.

But football is about more than just individual accomplishments. It's a team sport, and I'm fortunate to be surrounded by talented players who push me to be better.

We have a lot of threats on this team, and our ability to make big plays at any given moment makes us a dangerous offense.

It's not about one player; it's about all of us working together to achieve our goals.

Faith and Personal Growth

Off the field, my experience at Liberty University has been nothing short of amazing.

As a Christ-centered institution, Liberty provides an environment where I can grow not only as a football player but also as a person.

My faith is a significant part of my life, and being in a place where I can deepen my relationship with God is invaluable.

I've also been blessed to have the support of my wife, LaTia, who keeps me grounded and focused. We met in eighth grade and have been there for each other every step of the way.

Being married at a young age has taught me responsibility and discipline, and it's a constant reminder that my life is bigger than just football. Plus, it certainly doesn't hurt to finish the day with a home-cooked meal with someone who loves me outside of the game.

Marrying LaTia has been the best decision I have ever made, and she has helped me become the man I am today.

Having a partner who understands the demands of my sport and supports me in every way is a tremendous blessing.

Opportunities Beyond the Field

Looking beyond my football career, I have aspirations of becoming a sports broadcaster, and Liberty has provided me with unique opportunities to pursue that passion.

I've been fortunate to work with our talented Flames Central broadcast crew and even have my own YouTube video series called "Person of Interest". The series has allowed me to provide our fans a look at what my wonderful teammates are like off the field.

It has also been an incredible opportunity for me personally to get some hands-on experience in a field that I hope to pursue once football is finished.

Connecting with Teammates

Through these interviews, I've not only improved my broadcasting skills, but I've also had the chance to get to know my teammates on a deeper level.

We may not always have the opportunity to interact outside of our position groups or sides of the ball, but these interviews have brought us closer together.

It's a chance to learn about their lives off the field and build stronger relationships within the team.

Reflecting on my journey at Liberty, I can confidently say that I am in the right place.

The combination of a supportive community, a Christ-centered environment, and the opportunity to pursue my dreams on and off the field has been life-changing.

I'm grateful for the impact that Liberty has had on my personal and professional growth, and I'm excited to see what the future holds.

As I continue on this journey, I am committed to embracing the camaraderie, paying attention to the little details, and using my platform to make a positive impact.

Football is just one part of who I am, and at Liberty, I've found the perfect balance between my love for the game and my passion for broadcasting.

I am blessed to be a Flame, and I look forward to making the most of this incredible opportunity.
