Virginia Rallies Past Liberty in 4 Sets

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Liberty took set one from Virginia before the Cavaliers rallied to win the next three sets for a 3-1 (17-25, 26-24, 25-9, 25-18) win over the Lady Flames, Tuesday at John Paul Jones Arena.
Virginia evens its season record at 1-1, as the Cavaliers lost their season opener to American on Sunday. The Lady Flames also hold a .500 record, currently standing at 2-2.

The Lady Flames will host Liberty Mountain Madness this weekend at Liberty Arena. Liberty takes on Lamar at 6 p.m. on Friday before meeting three-time defending Big South champion High Point at 2 p.m., Sunday.

- Virginia outhit Liberty .290-.191 for the match. The Lady Flames held a slight 54-53 edge in kills, but the Cavaliers led in blocks (7-5), digs (56-54) and aces (3-2). Liberty committed 12 service errors, compared to five miscues from the service line by UVA.
- The Cavalier's received 12 kills each from Reagan Ennist and Becca Wight, while Ohio State transfer Reese Wuebker totaled 10 kills and 15 digs for a double-double. Olivia Siskin registered 23 assists and 11 digs, while Emily Fowler posted a match-high seven blocks and Katie Barrier collected 11 digs.
- For the second match in a row, Liberty had four players reach double-figures in kills. Carly O'Brien led all played with 15 kills, hitting .314. Jenna Otts scored a season-high 11 kills to go along with three blocks, while Laney Daniell (10 kills, .304, three blocks) and Paige Overcash (10 kills, nine digs) also reached double digits. Melis Ural collected a match-high 17 digs, while Alison Bierwagen contributed 29 assists. Charli Crowson finished with 16 assists and nine digs.
- Liberty raced to a 25-17, set-one victory, outhitting the Cavaliers .421-.126 during the opening frame while getting six kills each from Otts and O'Brien.
- The Lady Flames appeared poised to take a 2-0 match lead, holding a 21-17 lead in the second set. However, UVA went on a 9-3 surge, taking the set, 26-24. The Cavaliers used a 12-0 run to pull away for a 25-9 set-three win.
- Virginia improves to 33-5 all-time against Liberty with its second win in a row in the series. The Lady Flames had won two out of the last three meetings heading into tonight.
