- Liberty's (1-0) first road contest of the 2026-27 season will take the Lady Flames to East Carolina (1-0) on Saturday for the first contest of a four-game trek through North Carolina.
- The host Lady Flames recorded a 69-53 victory over the Pirates, exactly one year ago today. Both of Liberty's wins over American Conference opponents all-time have come against ECU, but the Lady Flames are in search of their first-ever American triumph away from home.
- Liberty tipped off its 2026-27 campaign with a stifling defensive effort, defeating Frostburg State 73-30 on Monday at Liberty Arena. The Lady Flames closed the game on a 32-0 run, holding the Bobcats scoreless for the final 14:14 of play.
- Ify Nwaobi picked up where she left off during her CUSA All-Freshman Team campaign. She recorded a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds), while tying her career high of five blocked shots and hitting two triples.
- Reigning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year Sophia Gregory impressed in her first game as a Lady Flame, contributing 14 points, nine boards, a team-high three assists, three steals and a blocked shot.
- For the second year in a row, Liberty and East Carolina will square off in a Nov. 7 matchup between two teams coming off comfortable season-opening victories. The Lady Flames defeated Frostburg State 73-30 on Monday and ECU took down Charleston Southern 61-45, Tuesday.
- Liberty is predicted for a third-place finish in CUSA. Meanwhile, East Carolina was voted just seventh of 13 squads in the preseason American Conference poll despite earning the No. 2 seed with a 14-4 conference record a year ago.
- The Lady Flames' only previous visit to East Carolina (Dec. 13, 2018) was a thriller. The Pirates' Justice Gee knocked down a long three-pointer as the final buzzer sounded, giving ECU a 66-63 victory and thrilling a facility women's basketball record crowd of 6,276.
- Liberty will attempt to win its first true road contest of the season for the first time since Nov. 10, 2023, when the Lady Flames posted an 84-81 victory at Stephen F. Austin.
- Turnovers will be a stat to watch. Liberty has averaged 23.8 miscues in four previous meetings with ECU, and the Pirates forced 27 Charleston Southern turnovers on Tuesday.
- Liberty at East Carolina is one of two CUSA vs. American clashes on Saturday. Kennesaw State will also visit Florida Atlantic.
- Liberty is 2-6 all-time when facing American Conference opponents (at time of meeting), including 0-2 in true road matchups.
- Both of the Lady Flames' victories over American opponents have come in home matchups with East Carolina, including an 81-66 triumph on Dec. 3, 2019 and a 69-53 victory on Nov. 7, 2025.Â
- All six of Liberty's setbacks to American foes have come by eight points or fewer.
- Liberty is 2-2 vs. East Carolina, 0-1 vs. Houston, 0-2 vs. Memphis and 0-1 vs. UCF.Â
- Liberty has not played in North Carolina since splitting a pair of contests at the Cherokee Invitational, Dec. 18 and 19, 2024 in Cherokee, N.C.Â
- That will change soon, as the Lady Flames will visit the Tar Heel State four times in 13 days (Nov. 7-19). The stretch will include Liberty's first game at East Carolina since 2018, its first contest at NC State since 2023, its first trek to North Carolina A&T since 2023 and its first tilt at Elon since 2014.
- Defense was a key focus of Liberty's preparation for the 2026-27 season, and it was on full display during the Lady Flames' 73-30 season-opening win over Frostburg State, Monday at Liberty Arena.
- The Lady Flames held the Bobcats scoreless for the game's final 14:14, closing out the game with a 32-0 run. It marked only the second time in program history Liberty has kept its opponent scoreless for an entire period.
- Frostburg State's 30 points were the fewest Liberty has allowed since a 109-26 win over Randolph on Dec. 11, 2024.
- Notable defensive contributions came from both returnees (Ify Nwaobi - career high-equaling five blocks and Elisabeth Aegisdottir - career-high four steals) and newcomers (reigning Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year Sophia Gregory - three steals and a block and freshman Kendyl Smith - four steals).
