LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis team (3-1) displayed dominance in a 7-0 sweep over Delaware on Friday afternoon at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. The Lady Flames earn a 2-0 week, previously topping Bellarmine 4-0 on Thursday.
The team sprinted out to early leads in the doubles round, but the Blue Hens made their foes fight for each match point. Liberty held a 5-0 lead on court one, a 5-1 lead on court three and a 4-2 advantage on court two. The Lady Flames held on to win on each court, marking the third time this season Liberty has swept doubles 3-0.
Celina Joseph sprinted to Liberty's first singles triumph with a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the No. 6 singles match. Daniella O'Neill followed her with a 6-2, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 singles position.
Liberty secured the match-clinching fourth point in what head coach Dash Connell called the most impressive performance of the day. Milana Tsulygina handled Lara Russiniello 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles match.
Despite clinching the match, Liberty needed to fight on each remaining court. The Lady Flames came out on top to earn the sweep, needing just one third-set super tiebreaker.
