
Williams Named CUSA Freshman of the Week

Following his first career start, Liberty's Caden Williams has been named the Conference USA Freshman of the Week.

The redshirt freshman helped Liberty to a 28-7 season-opening win over Maine by rushing for 52 yards on nine carries. He averaged 5.8 yards per carry and finished the game with a career-long run of 23 yards.

The native of Calhoun, Ga., ranked second on the team in rushing yards against the Black Bears and third in rushing attempts.

Williams' new career high in rushing yards allowed the Flames to rush the ball 40 times for 194 yards. His 23-yard run was Liberty's longest of the game.

This is Williams' first career Conference USA honor after redshirting during the 2024 season. He saw playing time in three games last year, including a 10-carry, 31-yard performance against Buffalo in the Bahamas Bowl.

What's Next:
Liberty will open Conference USA play against the defending conference champions this weekend then the Flames travel to Jacksonville, Ala., to face off against Jax State. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. CT/12 p.m. ET at Burgess-Snow Field at AmFirst Stadium.

Since the two teams joined Conference USA in 2023, the visiting team has won both series meetings. Liberty knocked off Jax State, 31-13, in Jacksonville in 2023, while the Gamecocks handed the Flames a 31-21 setback in Lynchburg in 2024.
