LYNCHBURG, Va. – Talented guard JaKayla Thompson is set to transfer from Boston College to join the Liberty women's basketball program for the 2025-26 academic year.
Thompson, who has two years of eligibility remaining, is the first transfer addition to the defending CUSA champion Lady Flames' roster for the 2025-26 season.
JaKayla Thompson (G, 5-8, Louisville, Ky.)
Thompson made 43 total appearances for Boston College during her first two collegiate seasons (2023-24 and 2024-25), making three starts as a sophomore.
Thompson averaged 2.2 ppg and 1.7 rpg last season. She scored a career-high nine points against New Hampshire, shooting 7-of-7 from the foul line. Thompson also played a key role in the Eagles' ACC Tournament first round victory over Syracuse. She scored seven points, including the game-winning hoop with 1:27 remaining, and recorded a plus-17 in 29 minutes of action.
Thompson graduated from duPont Manual High School in Louisville, Ky., as valedictorian in 2023. She was a Miss Kentucky Basketball nominee as a senior, while also earning first team all-state and region player of the year accolades.
"I am grateful and blessed to sign with Liberty," Thompson stated. "I'm ready to bring my heart, hustle and hunger to such a great program."
What They're Saying About JaKayla Thompson
"We are excited to announce that JaKayla Thompson has joined our program. We know she will have a huge impact on our continued success. She is a dedicated and seasoned competitor with considerable high school, AAU and Division I experience. JaKayla is an exceptional athlete who possesses a high level of guard skills. She is a lefty who can score at all three levels. However, she is also an exceptional ball handler who can break down the defense and penetrate to the basket to score or pass to an open teammate. JaKayla has high expectations and is motivated by this opportunity to contribute and shine."
