Peter Named Conference USA Player of the Week

LYNCHBURG, Va. – After an outstanding final two games to end the regular season, Liberty's Taelon Peter has been named the Conference USA Men's Basketball Player of the Week.
Peter averaged 27.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting a blistering 69.2 percent (18-of-26) from the field, 50 percent (7-of-14) from three-point territory and a perfect 100 percent (11-of-11) from the free throw line in road wins at Middle Tennessee (Thursday) and Western Kentucky (Saturday).
Peter is the Flames' first CUSA Player of the Week of the season and fifth all-time CUSA Player of the Week. He is the first Flame to earn the honor since Kyle Rode received the distinction on March 10, 2024 to close out the 2023-24 regular season.
Peter, a redshirt senior from Russellville, Ark., put together a career-high-matching 33-point performance in Liberty's 86-81 road win at MTSU. The guard was an extremely efficient 11-of-14 from the field and 8-of-8 from the foul line while going 3-of-6 from three-point land. Peter was a +10 in his 27:48 of action.
In Saturday's 90-61 win at WKU to give Liberty the outright CUSA regular-season title and the No. 1 seed for the upcoming CUSA Championship, Peter was excellent again with a game-high 21 points and nine rebounds while going 7-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-8 from long range. He was a +29 in his 23:01 on the court, and his 21-point effort was his eighth 20-plus point performance of the season.
Peter is the Flames' leading scorer on the season (13.7 ppg) and paced Liberty at 16.5 ppg in 18 CUSA games. He averaged 21.8 ppg in nine CUSA road games while shooting 61.7 percent from the field, 49.2 percent from three-point land and 84.2 percent from the foul line in those contests.
Peter and No. 1 seed Liberty (25-6, 13-5 CUSA) will face the winner of No. 8 seed UTEP (17-14, 7-11 CUSA) and No. 9 seed Sam Houston (13-18, 6-12 CUSA) in the 2025 CUSA Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals, Wednesday evening. Tip time is 6:30 p.m. Eastern at Propst Arena in Huntsville, Ala.
