Fairley, Hicks Lead Way on Day 2 at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – Liberty's Adelyn Fairley clocked a CUSA-leading 16:03.91 5K, while Christian Hicks was the Flames' highest finisher (fourth place in men's discus) on Friday, the second day of competition at the Raleigh Relays.
Women's Day 2 Recap
In her first race since sweeping the CUSA indoor women's 3K and 5K titles, Fairley opened her final collegiate outdoor season with a 16:03.91 5K clocking. The fastest outdoor time of any CUSA runner so far in 2025 ranked 24th overall among the event's 10 heats.
Teammate Isabela Ross posted a 17:01.45 in her first outdoor 5K as a Lady Flame, finishing less than a second away from earning a spot on the program's all-time top 10 list.
Earlier in the day, Marie Hostetler (4:29.02) and Jessica Palisca (4:29.11) paced Liberty's contingent of women's 1,500 competitors.
Freshman Bethany Tate paced the Lady Flames' throwers in a second event in as many days, throwing the discus 148-11 for 15th place (third among freshmen). She had previously finished seventh in Thursday's women's shot put competition.
Men's Day 2 Recap
A week after going 1-2 in the Bob Davidson Team Challenge men's discus, Hicks and Beau Backes both recorded top-10 finishes among Friday's 57-member field in Raleigh.
Hicks reached 181-8 for fourth place, while Backes stretched the tape to 172-5 to come in ninth.

Liberty will close out its week of competition at both the Raleigh Relays and Dr. Jack M. Toms Alumni Invitational on Saturday.
First up in Raleigh will be the men's hammer at 9:30 a.m. Meanwhile, the Flames competing in the Hill City will get started at 11 a.m. with the men's 4 x 100 relay.
