
Liberty to Face Oregon in 1st Round of 2025 NCAA Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Conference USA regular season and tournament champion Liberty (28-6) will face Oregon (24-9) in the first round of the 2025 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
The Flames will enter the NCAA Tournament as a No. 12 seed, tied for the highest seeding in school history. The Oregon Ducks are the No. 5 seed. The winner of the Liberty vs. Oregon matchup will face the victor in the game between No. 4 seed Arizona (22-12) and No. 13 seed Akron (28-6).
Tipoff time, site and TV information will be released when it becomes available.
Liberty claimed its first CUSA Championship title to earn the league's automatic bid to the Big Dance. The Flames, the top seed at the tournament, downed No. 2 seed Jacksonville State 79-67 in Saturday night's championship game at Propst Arena in Huntsville, Ala. Liberty guard Kaden Metheny was named CUSA Championship MVP and to the All-Tournament team. Taelon Peter joined Metheny on the All-Tournament team. Liberty shot 60 percent (30-of-50) from the field, a new CUSA Championship title game record.
The Flames are making their first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2021, when they were a No. 13 seed and faced No. 4 seed Oklahoma State. Liberty earned bids to the NCAA Tournament in three straight years from 2019-21 and won its first-ever game in the tournament in 2019, an 80-76 triumph over No. 5 seed Mississippi State.
Liberty is one of 14 teams in the nation with 28 or more wins. The Flames' 28 wins are third most in Division I program history. The Flames enter the NCAA Tournament at No. 60 in the NCAA Men's Basketball NET Rankings and No. 62 in the KenPom Rankings.
