
Liberty Battles for 5-Set Victory at Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Liberty battled for a five-set victory (25-23, 28-26, 20-25, 21-25, 15-8) over Missouri State, Friday at Hammons Student Center.
With the win, its third in a row, Liberty improves to 19-7, 7-6 in Conference USA matches. Meanwhile, the Bears fall to 10-14, 5-8 in conference play with their third consecutive loss.

- Missouri State outhit Liberty .249-.239 for the match. The Lady Flames led in kills (82-63), aces (4-1) and digs (98-85), while the Bears led 12-7 in blocks.
- Liberty's 82 kills and 98 digs were the most kills and digs, respectively, by any CUSA team in a match this season.
- Carly O'Brien scored a match-high 28 kills and added 12 digs for the Lady Flames. Jenna Otts totaled 18 kills and nine digs, while Paige Overcash posted 17 kills and four blocks. Charli Crowson (31 assists) and Alison Bierwagen (23 assists) both recorded seven digs, while Molly Littlefield collected 20 digs and Shyia Richardson, 15.
- For Missouri State, Peyon McKee scored 19 kills, while Jenna Walters, Lexi Weinberg and Lizanyela Lopez scored 11 kills each. Brooke Eslinger collected a match-high 34 digs, while Weinberg led all players with six blocks. Hannah Gardner contributed 33 assists and 16 digs.
- Liberty used a late 7-2 rally to win set two 28-26 and take a 2-0 match lead. The Bears battled back, winning set three. The Lady Flames surrendered a 12-6 set-four lead, as the hosts battled back to force a fifth set.
- However, set five was all Liberty, as the Lady Flames led by as many as eight and cruised to the 15-8 win.
- Liberty and Missouri State met in volleyball for the first time tonight.
- Liberty is 8-2 in five-set matches this season, while Missouri State is 1-4 in five-setters.
- Liberty's 82 kills are its most since scoring 82 kills at Presbyterian College on Nov. 2, 2007. The Lady Flames' 98 digs are their most since collecting 100 digs at UC Irvine, Sept. 16, 2010.
- Today was the 12th time this season that O'Brien, Otts and Overcash all reached double figures in kills.
