
Flames Announce Addition of Herbert on Signing Day

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty men's basketball program and head coach Ritchie McKay have announced the addition of Eli Herbert for the 2026-27 academic year.
Herbert is a 6-4 guard from Grain Valley, Missouri and currently attends Grain Valley High School.
"Eli Herbert is another son of a coach. His dad Andy has done an unbelievable job of developing his skill set. Eli will be one of the best shooters that has put on one of our jerseys," McKay stated. "He also has a high IQ and is a great teammate."
Herbert averaged 24.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game during his junior season while shooting 88 percent from the free throw line and making 73 threes. Herbert was a Missouri Class 6 all-state selection and also the Missouri Class 6 District 7 Player of the Year. His other awards as a junior included: Great Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division Player of the Year, William Jewell Class All-Tournament team, Eastern Jackson County Examiner Player of the Year, KMZU Dream-Team Player of the Year and Direnna Award finalist. Herbert and the Grain Valley Eagles posted a 16-9 record and were the champions of the Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division.
a sophomore, Herbert averaged 16.9 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 2.5 apg and 1.5 spg while shooting 84 percent from the foul line and making 69 triples. The guard was named Missouri Class 6A Distirct 7 all-district as well as Greater Kansas City Suburban Conference White Division all-conference first team, KMZU Dream-Team honoree and Eastern Jackson County Examiner all-area first team.
As a freshman, he averaged 16.9 ppg, 3.1 apg, 1.8 rpg and 1.4 spg while converting on 93 percent of his free throw attempts and hitting 78 three-pointers. Herbert and the Grain Valley Eagles went 18-10 that season and won the Grain Valley Invitational, claimed the Pleasant Hill Tournament title and were Missouri Class 6 District 7 semifinalists. Individually, Herbert was an all-district selection, first team all-conference honoree, DMZU Dream-Team member and Eastern Jackson County Examiner Player of the Year.
Herbert also has played for KC Run GMC (2023-25), with the squad capturing the UAA national title in 2024. He was also invited to participate in the VWBA Elite Camps this year. A two-sport athlete in high school, Herbert has played golf for three seasons (2023-25) while at Grain Valley High School.
Herbert is the second announced signee in the Flames' class, joining Eli Sancomb (Wheeling, W.Va.).
