Zealand Claims 3rd CUSA Athlete of the Week Honor This Season

LYNCHBURG, Va. – After setting her second program record in as many races, Liberty sophomore Allie Zealand has been recognized as the CUSA Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the third time this season.
Competing in her first 6K race of the year, Zealand placed fifth of 339 women's runners at the Pre-National Invitational, Friday in Columbia, Mo. The Forest, Va., native's fourth top-five finish in as many races this fall came in a time of 19:40.4.
Zealand improved her 6K personal best by 28 seconds and took down the previous Liberty record of 19:50.6 set by Calli Doan at the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships.
Zealand helped the Lady Flames take ninth place of 38 women's teams on Friday and maintain their No. 9 ranking within the Southeast Region.
The Liberty men's and women's squads will attempt to defend their team titles at the CUSA Cross Country Championships on Nov. 1. The meet will take place at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala., with the women's 6K slated for 10 a.m. Eastern and the men's 8K to follow at 11 a.m. Eastern.
