Owls Come Back for 3-2 Win Over Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Kennesaw State rallied from a 2-1 deficit, defeating Liberty 3-2 (24-26, 25-20, 17-25, 25-14, 15-9) on Saturday at Liberty Arena.
The Owls improve to 10-6 on the season, including 4-2 in Conference USA play, as these two teams split a pair of matches this weekend in Lynchburg. The Lady Flames fall to 15-4, 3-3 in CUSA matches with their first home loss of the season.

The Lady Flames head to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to play in a pair of matches at Middle Tennessee, Friday and Saturday.

- KSU outhit Liberty .178-.096. The Owls led in kills (58-50), digs (81-74) and blocks (19-7), while the Lady Flames held a slight 5-4 advantage in aces.
- Manu Johnsen led all players in both kills (20) and digs (18) for KSU. Caroline Chastang registered 10 kills, 15 digs and four blocks, while Olivia Burrage contributed nine kills and a match-high 10 blocks. Maggie Butkovich totaled 10 kills, while Kaeley Walz (27 assists, 13 digs) posted a double-double. Leah Freeman collected 16 digs, while Haley Patterson recorded five blocks.
- Liberty's Jenna Otts scored 14 kills, while Paige Overcash followed with 13 kills. Zoe Hall registered six blocks, while Carly O'Brien posted eight kills and 11 digs. Alison Bierwagen dished out 24 assists to go along with 10 digs, while Charli Crowson totaled 13 assists, three aces and 12 digs.
- After leading the match 2-1, Liberty struggled to find its rhythm during the fourth set. KSU built an early 10-3 lead during set four, racing to a 25-14 victory.
- The Lady Flames trailed early in set five before battling back to within two at 9-7 on a kill by Jenna Otts. However, the Owls outscored the Lady Flames 6-2 down the stretch to secure the win.
- Kennesaw State leads the all-time series in volleyball against Liberty, 15-3.
- The Lady Flames are now 6-1 in five-set matches this season. Kennesaw State is 2-1 in five-set contests.
- Both of Liberty's setters in today's match, Bierwagen and Crowson, posted double-doubles. Bierwagen is tied with Carly O'Brien for the team lead with eight double-doubles this season, while Crowson recorded her first double-double of the season and second of her career.
- Today's match featured all of this year's CUSA Offensive Player of the Week recipients, in Overcash (three times), O'Brien (Sept. 22), Otts (Sept. 29) and KSU's Johnsen (Oct. 6).
