As part of the team's preparations for its second #WeekdayCUSA game, Liberty Head Football Coach Jamey Chadwell met with the media on Friday.
Â
During the media session, Chadwell provided his final thoughts on the road victory at UTEP and looked ahead to the Flames' return to Williams Stadium against New Mexico State on Tuesday night.
Â
After Chadwell's weekly presser, running back Vaughn Blue and kicker Jay Billingsley addressed the media from the Media Room inside the Liberty Football Center.
Â
Tuesday will mark the ninth meeting between these two teams in the last eight years. The Flames have won three consecutive matchups with the Aggies, improving to 6-2 in the head-to-head series.
Â
The Flames are playing their second contest in seven days, following a 19-8 triumph at UTEP last Wednesday which halted a four-game losing streak.
Â
Jamey Chadwell is 23-9 in his third year at Liberty and owns a 54-15 coaching record dating back to the start of 2020. The Flames are 14-2 at Williams Stadium under Chadwell.
Â
Quarterback Ethan Vasko made a successful return to the lineup at UTEP after missing the previous game and a half due to injury. He completed 19-of-33 passes (to 11 different receivers) for 243 yards and also ran for a touchdown.
Â
Liberty's defense intercepted a pair of UTEP passes, giving the Flames six takeaways in the last two games. Liberty also limited the Miners to 167 total yards of offense, the fewest the Flames have allowed in a game since 2014.
Â
Kicker Jay Billingsley enjoyed his best game as a Flame, connecting on 4-of-5 field goal attempts and tallying 13 of Liberty's 19 points at UTEP. He matched Liberty's single-game record for field goals made and knocked down the Flames' first successful 50-yard field goal since the 2020 season.
