Liberty Fends Off Kennesaw State in 4 Sets

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty posted a 3-1 win (25-22, 25-22, 19-25, 25-16) over Kennesaw State, Friday at Liberty Arena.
The Lady Flames (15-3, 3-2 CUSA) bounced back after dropping a pair of matches at conference-leading UTEP last weekend. Meanwhile, KSU (9-6, 3-2) saw its winning streak snapped at three matches.

The Lady Flames and Owls close out this weekend's series tomorrow, with first serve set for 1 p.m. at Liberty Arena. Liberty will honor its volleyball alumni with an on-court recognition between sets two and three.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit KSU, .305-.244. Kennesaw State led in kills (66-52) and also in attack errors (27-9), while the Owls served up one ace compared to 11 service errors. The Lady Flames registered four aces while KSU led 68-61 in digs and both teams posted six blocks.
- Three Lady Flames reached double figures in kills, led by Paige Overcash's 14 kills at a .519 pace. Jenna Otts scored 13 kills, while Carly O'Brien posted her team-leading eighth double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Alison Bierwagen registered 20 assists, two aces and nine digs, while Shyia Richardson collected 11 digs and Zoe Hall and Layla Collins recorded three blocks each.
- KSU's Kiernan Stamey scored a match-high 17 kills, while Manu Johnsen sent down 16 kills. Haley Patterson tallied nine kills and a match-high five blocks, while Kaeley Walz posted a double-double with 29 assists and 14 digs. Leah Freeman collected 14 digs.
- Liberty won the first two sets by identical 25-22 scores and led set three, 15-10, and appeared on the verge of a sweep. However, the Owls' Johnsen and Stamey combined for eight kills from that point on, spurring the comeback as KSU rallied to win, 25-19.
- The Lady Flames rebounded in the fourth, holding KSU to a .098 hitting percentage in a 25-16 Liberty win.
- Kennesaw State leads the all-time series in volleyball against Liberty, 15-2. However, the Lady Flames have won each of the last two meetings inside Liberty Arena (also Sept. 30, 2022).
- Liberty has hit .300 or better eight times so far this season.
- The Lady Flames are a perfect 4-0 at home this year.
- Overcash (vs. Rutgers, KSU) and Otts (at West Virginia, vs. Louisiana Tech) now both have two matches this season where they hit .500 or better with 12 or more kills.
