Cooley Named to Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Preseason Watch List

Liberty's Quinton Cooley, a standout athlete on the field and service off the gridiron, has been named to the 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Preseason Watch List.

The Wuerffel Foundation announced today its Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List for the 2024 season, consisting of a record 111 nominees representing players from college football's Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS).

Today's announcement marks the second preseason award watch list for Cooley. Earlier this week, Cooley was named to the Maxwell Award Watch List, which honors the top player in college football each season.

College Football's Premier Award for Community Service and one of the most meaningful awards in collegiate sports, the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from Florida who parlayed his success on the football field into a lifetime of service.

The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy embodies Wuerffel's commitment to being a humanitarian, while honoring student-athletes who are inspired to serve others and make positive impacts on society. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Trophy's founding, and the Foundation will recognize the first nineteen recipients throughout the fall season.

During his first year on the Mountain, Cooley completed over 75 hours of community service through a variety of initiatives and programming.

Cooley participated in the following campaigns: Dollar Makes a Difference (school supplies drive), Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat (collecting canned goods), Hop on Pop (collecting books for elementary schools) and the Learn Like Liberty literacy program (reading at elementary schools).

Each week, NCAA student-athletes read to the second and third graders at a local elementary school for 90 minutes. Cooley led the charge for the Learn Like Liberty literacy program and did not miss one single week of reading regardless of if it was in season or out of season.

Cooley made the most of his first season at Liberty, earning CUSA Newcomer of the Year honors and leading the Flames in rushing and scoring.

The transfer from Wake Forest ranked No. 7 in the country with 1,401 rushing yards and No. 6 nationally with 16 rushing touchdowns. He also ranked No. 13 in rushing yards per carry (6.34), No. 14 in total touchdowns (16) and No. 15 in rushing yards per game (100.1).

Cooley, a native of Bailey, N.C., and the Flames finished the 2023 season with a school record 4,106 rushing yards and had the country's No. 1 rushing offense (293.3 yards per game).

Liberty also ranked No. 4 nationally in total offense (499.1 yards per game) and No. 9 in scoring offense (38.3 points per game).

The 2024 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy finalists and recipient will be selected by an illustrious national voting committee, including a fan vote component, and announced on ESPN's Home Depot College Football Awards Show on December 12th.

The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Presentation Gala will take place February 1, 2025, at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
