EUGENE, Ore. – Liberty's Calli Doan closed out her collegiate career in impressive fashion, Saturday at the 2024 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She clocked a program-record 9:49.54 for 10th place in the women's steeplechase final, earning the third All-America notation of her amazing career.
Doan, who previously garnered All-America honors at the 2021 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships (28th place) and in the 2023 NCAA women's steeplechase final (11th place), ties the Liberty women's track & field/cross country program record for most All-America medals at the NCAA Division I level. Ednah Kurgat and Andrea Wildrick were also three-time All-Americans for the Lady Flames.
Doan becomes the Lady Flames' third second team All-American at this week's meet, marking the most All-America honors the Liberty women's squad has ever garnered at a single NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Katie Urbine (10th place in women's pole vault) and Paola Bueno (11th in women's hammer) each achieved All-America status on Thursday.
Doan was one of seven women in Saturday's steeplechase final to record a personal best, headlined by national champion Doris Lemngole of Alabama, who clocked a collegiate-record 9:15.24. Doan's 9:49.54 effort improved upon her own Liberty record of 9:52.15, set one year ago to the day during the NCAA semifinal round in Austin, Texas. It also put her in the running for a potential trip back to Hayward Field later this month for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
In addition to her trio of All-America certificates, Doan closes out her time as a Lady Flame as an 11-time conference champion and a program record holder in five events (cross country 5K – 16:15.1, cross country 6K – 19:50.6, indoor mile – 4:36.52, indoor 3K – 9:24.67 and outdoor steeplechase – 9:49.54).
Like Doan a sixth-year senior, Makenzy Mizera also punctuated her collegiate career at Hayward Field on Saturday. She placed 24th in her NCAA women's triple jump national meet debut, reaching 39-11.5 into a slight headwind.
Mizera finishes her time as a Lady Flame as a four-time conference champion and a 13-time all-conference performer between the long jump and triple jump. She also owns the Liberty indoor (42-8) and outdoor (42-6) women's triple jump records and was the first Lady Flame ever to triple jump at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
