
Lady Flames Featured in 2024 ITA Atlantic Regional Rankings

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's tennis landed four rankings in the 2024 ITA Regional Year-End Rankings. The Lady Flames ranked eighth as a team in the Atlantic Region highlighted by Maria Juliana Parra Romero slotting in at No. 11 in singles, marking the third consecutive year she is featured in the rankings.
Esther Lovato garnered a No. 18 singles ranking. Parra Romero and partner Tiffany Nguyen were featured as the No. 9 pair in the doubles rankings.
Liberty finished its year with an 18-7 (5-0 CUSA) record, reaching the 2024 CUSA Championship final before falling to No. 1 seed and No. 27 FIU. The Lady Flames also competed for the first time in a post-season tournament, receiving an invite to the 2024 UTR Sports NIT Championship. Their season ended in a semifinal loss to No. 1 seed Colorado. Liberty held a national ranking for a program-best seven weeks, achieving a high ranking as No. 54 in the nation, also a program best.
The Lady Flames finished 2024 with an 8-1 record against teams in the Atlantic region with their only loss coming on the road against Maryland (4-1 final, March 2).
Parra Romero had a strong showing as a junior in Liberty's inaugural season in CUSA, receiving both singles and doubles All-Conference first team honors. The Bucaramanga, Colombia native finished the season with an 11-5 spring singles mark and a 13-8 doubles spring record, primarily playing in the No. 1 slot. Along with her No. 11 Atlantic Region singles ranking, Parra Romero previously received singles rankings at No. 10 in 2023 and No. 13 in 2022.
Lovato finished her five-year career as a Flame with the all-time singles win record, with an impressive 121-26 mark (82 spring victories). The Austin, Texas native garnered both singles and doubles All-Conference first team honors following a 14-6 singles and a 12-2 doubles spring mark. Lovato adds onto her postseason accomplishments along with inclusion on the 2024 CUSA All-Academic team and CSC Academic All-District team.
Parra Romero and Nguyen achieved a 12-5 spring record together that included a 5-1 mark against CUSA foes. The two played the entire season in Liberty's No. 1 doubles position and were featured in the CUSA All-Conference doubles first team. The pair are the third team all-time to receive an Atlantic Region doubles ranking joining Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre (No. 8, 2023) and the duo of Lara Soares and Maria Medina (No. 10, 2019).
