LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Flames men's basketball team has announced the addition of Jayvon Maughmer for the 2024-25 school year.
Maughmer is a 6-6 guard who played for Cedarville University for the past four years and has one year of eligibility remaining.
"Not unlike Taelon (Peter), Jayvon has accomplished a ton at the Division II level. I think the kinds of success and significant impact that he has had at Cedarville will seamlessly transition to what we do," said Liberty Men's Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay. "Not only has he come from a terrific family and program, but he also embodies the characteristics that positively influence his environment."
Maughmer started all 35 games for the Cedarville Yellow Jackets (Division II) this past season and averaged 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 33.1 minutes per game. The Chillicothe, Ohio native shot 51.9 percent from the floor and 40.8 percent from three-point territory with 78 total makes from long distance. He also shot 81.0 percent from the free throw line.
He was tabbed the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Year as well as an NCCAA All-America first team member and a Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA) All-Midwest Region first team member. Maughmer led Cedarville to the NCCAA Men's Basketball Championship title, with the Yellow Jackets concluding the year with a 23-12 record.
During his junior campaign (2022-23), Maughmer started all 29 games and ranked third in the league at 17.8 ppg and shot 50.8 percent from the field. The guard was named an NCCAA All-America first team member and was also tabbed to the All-NCAAA Midwest Region first team and All-G-MAC first team. Maughmer scored in double figures 26 times and paced the squad in minutes played (32.7).
Maughmer appeared in all 32 games with 31 starts as a sophomore and averaged 10.3 ppg and 3.1 rpg while shooting 46.3 percent from beyond the arc. As a freshman, he appeared in 20 games with one start while averaging 6.5 ppg and 2.6 rpg. Maughmer's brother, Branden, played for Cedarville for four years before transferring to Division I Morehead State for his last season.
Maughmer was a highly accomplished high school player at Chillicothe High School, earning Frontier Athletic Player of the Year honors along with two first team All-FAC awards. He was selected to the All-Southeast District team on two occasions and averaged 15.0 points and 7.0 rebounds during his senior season.
