
Liberty Adds 4 Games to Football Series With James Madison

Flames fans wanting to see Liberty compete against in-state football foes will have their chances following today's scheduling announcement with James Madison.

Liberty has added four games to its planned series against James Madison, including two more home games against the Dukes in 2025 and 2032.

With today's announcement, Liberty and James Madison will square off against each other on the gridiron six times over 10 years (2025-34).

The Flames will welcome James Madison to Williams Stadium on September 20, 2025, and September 11, 2032.

Liberty will make the trip to Harrisonburg, Va., to face the Dukes at Bridgeforth Stadium on September 5, 2026, and September 6, 2031.

The Flames and the Dukes had already previously announced a two-game series during the 2033 and 2034 seasons (Sept. 17, 2033 – James Madison at Liberty; Sept. 16, 2034 – Liberty at James Madison).

Liberty and James Madison have a long-standing series, dating back to the 1980 season. The Dukes hold a 12-6 lead in the overall series, with Liberty winning in the last matchup.

Following an upset win over No. 1 Coastal Carolina in the regular season finale of 2014, Liberty earned its first-ever FCS Playoff win when it upended No. 15 James Madison, 26-21, on Nov. 29, 2014, at Bridgeforth Stadium.

Since making the move up to the FBS level in 2019, Liberty has played in five-straight bowl games and posted a combined 47-17 record over the last five seasons.

In its first season as a member of Conference USA in 2023, Liberty (13-1, 8-0 CUSA) won the CUSA Football Championship and earned its first-ever New Year's Six bowl game appearance where the Flames faced No. 8 Oregon in the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.

During its two seasons at the FBS level, James Madison has posted a combined 19-5 record and a 13-3 mark in the Sun Belt Conference. The Dukes qualified for their first-ever bowl game in 2023 where they faced Air Force in the Lockhead Martin Armed Forces Bowl.
