LYNCHBURG, Va. - Liberty backed a four-hit shutout by Kaylan Yoder with a five-run fifth inning, blanking Jacksonville State 5-0 on Friday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
The Lady Flames evened their season record at 12-12, including 3-1 in Conference USA play. Meanwhile, Jax State fell to 10-16, 0-1 in CUSA games.

Turning Point
- With the game tied at 0-0, Jacksonville State loaded the bases with one out in the top of the fifth. Then, Caroline Lively lined out to center fielder Mary Claire Wilson, who threw out pinch runner Ella Pate trying to score from home, keeping the game tied.
- Liberty staged a two-out rally in the home half of the fifth. After Rachel Craine walked and KK Madrey singled, two runs scored on Raigan Barrett's single. Relief pitcher Jordan Enslinger then gave up an RBI single to Rachel Roupe. Wilson singled before Deter's two-run double made it 5-0.
- The Gamecocks left the bases loaded in the sixth and stranded two in the seventh as Yoder clinched her first career shutout.Â
- Liberty outhit Jax State 9-4 for the game, with the Gamecocks committing one error. The visitors left seven runners on base, while the hosts stranded four.
- Yoder (4-5) tossed a four-hit shutout, walking three and striking out five.
- Jax State's Kat Carter (2-5) drew the loss, allowing three runs on three hits, walking one and fanning one in 4 2/3 innings. Enslinger allowed two runs on three hits without retiring a batter before giving way to Amber Reed and Sarah Currie.
- Every Liberty batter reached base at least once. KK Madrey batted 2-for-3 with one run scored, while Hailey Deter went 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.
- Four different Gamecocks registered hits, highlighted by a double from Emma Jones.
- Liberty is now 2-1 all-time against Jacksonville State in softball, winning the last two meetings. The Lady Flames defeated the Gamecocks 4-2 in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 ASUN Softball Championship.
- Today was the 600th career game as a head coach for current Liberty Head Coach Dot Richardson. Her first game at the helm at Liberty also came against a Conference USA team, Feb. 7, 2014 versus Western Kentucky.
- Current Liberty senior Megan Fortner was playing against her former team. Fortner played from 2020 through 2022 at Jacksonville State, leading the Atlantic Sun Conference in doubles in 2022 before transferring to Liberty.
- Yoder is the first Liberty true freshman to toss a seven-inning shutout since Emily Kirby's three-hitter at Hampton, April 26, 2018.
- Liberty's five-run scoring outburst in the fifth inning tied its highest-scoring inning of the season to date. The Lady Flames scored five runs in the bottom of the first inning of a 9-1 win over then No. 25 Penn State on Feb. 23.
- Liberty has outscored opponents 35-7 in seven home games so far this season.
