
FIU Salvages Series Finale, Run-Rules Liberty 10-2

With the win, FIU (12-14, 1-2 Conference USA) avoided a sweep at the hands of the Lady Flames and snapped its own four-game losing streak. The Lady Flames (11-11, 2-1) saw their three-game winning streak come to a close. Liberty won the series this weekend by way of a pair of a one-run wins over the Panthers on Friday and Saturday.

Turning Point
- FIU capitalized on two Liberty errors in the second inning, turning a 2-0 deficit into a 6-2 lead by scoring six runs (one earned) on four hits in the frame. The Panthers chased both starter Paige Bachman and reliever Elena Escobar in the second.
- The Panthers scored their final four runs via the long ball, including back-to-back fifth-inning blasts which ended the game.
- FIU outhit Liberty 10-3 for the game, with the Lady Flames committing a season-high three errors. The Panthers left four runners on base, while Liberty stranded three.
- Alina Varga (3-3) allowed two runs on three hits, walking two and fanning three in the winning effort.
- Paige Bachman (1-2) drew the loss, yielding three runs, one earned, on two hits, walking one and striking out one in 1 1/3 innings. Escobar yielded three unearned runs on one hit in 1/3 of an inning. Kaylan Yoder allowed four runs on seven hits, issuing two walks in 2 2/3 innings.
- FIU's Casey Goguts went 2-for-3 with a homer, three RBI and two runs scored, while Ashton Lansdell batted 2-for-3 with a homer, one RBI and one run. Isabella Perez also homered, while Makayla Navarro and Bailey Grossenbacher both had two hits.
- For Liberty, Raigan Barrett and Hailey Deter both went 1-for-2 with an RBI double each. Meanwhile, KK Madrey batted 1-for-1 wit two steals and one run scored.
- Liberty is now 2-1 all-time in softball against FIU, as the first three meetings in the series all came in this series.
- The Lady Flames have played more than half (12-of-22) of their games so far this season in the state of Florida. However, this is Liberty's last scheduled trip to Florida in 2024.
- Madrey is the first Lady Flame this season with a two-stolen base game. She stole three bases this season and is tied with Mary Claire Wilson for the lead among active Lady Flames with 33 stolen bases during her time at Liberty.
- Deter recorded extra-base hits in all three games of this series, with a homer and two doubles. She has hits in each of Liberty's last four games.
- Liberty's 10 runs allowed today were its most given up in a conference game since falling 11-2 in six innings vs. Radford, March 25, 2017. That was also the last time the Lady Flame had fallen via run-rule in league play.
Liberty returns home for its next five games, beginning with a contest against No. 4 Duke, Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
