- The Flames took their first lead of the game by eating up over six minutes of the clock with a 14-play, 85-yard scoring drive. Liberty continued to go to its ground game nine times, including a four-yard score up the middle by Quinton Cooley at 9:00 to give the visitors a 14-7 edge.
- Liberty would score twice more before the end of the half, continuing with its strong ground game and benefiting from its first turnover. Gray scored on a 41-yard rushing touchdown at 3:16, finishing a seven-play, 96-yard drive.
- The Flames' defense would make their presence known when they sacked Vattiato and Ethan Crisp scooped up the loose ball. Five plays later, Salter found Jacob Jenkins in the back of the end zone for a four-yard touchdown pass with 32 seconds left, giving Liberty a 27-7 halftime lead.
- The Flames were the only team to find the scoreboard during the third quarter and nearly scored its fifth touchdown of the day. However, Salter's pass in the end zone to Tyson Mobley was broken up, forcing Liberty to settle for a 35-yard field goal by Colin Karhu at 1:49, to push Liberty's lead to 30-7.
- MTSU scored twice during the fourth quarter, trying to stay in the game. The Blue Raiders got a 17-yard touchdown reception from Terry Wilkins at 12:53 and a 48-yard field goal by Zeke Rankin at 4:47.
- However, Gray capped his first standout game as a Flames with a 34-yard touchdown reception from Salter at 9:42 to give Liberty a 37-14 lead and to seal the road victory.
The Flames complete a two-game road swing when they travel to Amherst, Mass., to face former fellow FBS independent foe UMass, next Saturday, at McGuirk Alumni Stadium.
The two teams have faced each other each year since Liberty moved up to the FBS level (2018), but will soon not face each other as often since both have found FBS conferences affiliation. Liberty joined Conference USA in 2023 and UMass is set to begin play in the Mid-American Conference in 2025.
