LYNCHBURG, Va. – After recording standout performances at the Penn State National Open, a trio of Liberty Flames have earned Conference USA indoor track & field weekly awards. Liberty's honorees include Warren Barrett (Male Field Athlete of the Week), Katelyn Locker (Female Track Athlete of the Week) and Katie Urbine (Female Field Athlete and Freshman of the Week).
Locker collected her first career weekly recognition, Barrett earned his second Male Field Athlete of the Week honor this season (also Jan. 16) and Urbine swept the Female Field Athlete and Freshman of the Week laurels for the second week in a row.
Barrett, an All-American from Montego Bay, Jamaica, placed second overall (first among collegiate entrants) in the invitational men's shot put with a season-best mark of 63-6. He now ranks No. 7 nationally this season and tops the CUSA performance list by more than eight feet.
A native of Elizabethtown, Pa., Locker was the women's 1,000 runner-up in a program-record 2:45.61 and placed sixth in the women's 800 in a season-best 2:08.38. Locker's 1,000 time shattered the previous Liberty standard (Delaney McDowell's 2:49.95 effort from 2018) by four seconds and ranks No. 22 nationally.
Locker's 800 clocking was the fastest by a Conference USA runner this season by more than four seconds and sits No. 70 on the NCAA national list. Locker also climbed to No. 6 on Liberty's all-time list for the event.
Urbine, who hails from Quarryville, Pa., broke the Liberty women's pole vault freshman record for the fourth meet in a row and collected her second consecutive victory. She shared first-place honors in the invitational section with Penn State's Hailey Zurich, thanks to a first-attempt clearance at 13-8.5.
Urbine currently tops the CUSA women's pole vault list and ranks No. 27 in the NCAA (sixth among freshmen). She also ranks No. 2 in program history for the Lady Flames.
The Flames will host three February meets at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex, beginning with Saturday's Liberty Open. Events are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
