LYNCHBURG, Va. – Host Liberty won four events on Friday, the second day of competition at the fourth annual Brant Tolsma Invitational. Highlighting the Flames' victors at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex were record setters John Hicks (men's weight – meet-record 65-3.25) and Reese Webster (women's 200 – Liberty-record 23.93).
Revell Webster completed a sibling sweep of the 200 titles, claiming the men's victory in 21.71. Meanwhile, Cole Peterlin scored a personal-best 5,244 points to win the heptathlon.
Women's Day 2 Recap
Webster set a Liberty record in a second event in as many weeks, following her program record in the 60 (7.37) at last Friday's Virginia Tech Invitational.
This time around, the first-year Lady Flame from Trinidad and Tobago clocked 23.93 to post a dominating win in the women's 200. The mark improved upon the previous standard of 23.98 set by Kimone Green on the same track at the Big South Championship on Feb. 24, 2018. Only 21 women in the nation had run faster than 23.93 this season entering the weekend.
Webster has now won all three of her individual events as a Lady Flame, following a sweep of the women's 60 and 200 crowns last weekend in Blacksburg.
Rebecca Allen was the Lady Flames' top field event performer on the day, long jumping a personal-best 18-9.25 for third place in the event. The sophomore is now tied with Kylie Polsgrove for 10th place in program history.
Megan Mann (fourth place, 58-7.5) and Sofia Mojica (sixth, season-best 57-1) both recorded lofty finishes in the women's weight throw.
Men's Day 2 Recap
Hicks captured his third consecutive Brant Tolsma Invitational men's weight throw crown with a season-best mark of 65-3.25 which outdistanced runner-up Keyandre Davis of USC Upstate by three feet. Hicks shattered the meet record of 61-5 set by Charleston Southern's Seth Wolfe, the only weight thrower ever to defeat Hicks in four years of competition at this meet, in 2021.
Desmond Coleman was defeated for the first time in three career weight throw competitions but surpassed Wolfe's previous record with a 62-2.5 heave for third place.
Christian Hicks added a foot to his personal best in the weight throw, landing at 59-3.5 for fifth place in the event and just one centimeter outside the Liberty all-time top 10.
Revell Webster made an impressive collegiate debut, as the freshman edged out teammate and Trinidad and Tobago countryman Omari Lewis for victory in the men's 200, 21.71 to 21.74.
Peterlin's personal-best 5,244 points enabled him to win the heptathlon by 386 points over Canyon Hall of Army West Point, thanks to a big second day.
Peterlin bookended his Friday with victories in the 60 hurdles (8.19) and 1,000 (personal-best 2:54.40) and pole vaulted a near personal-best 14-7.25
Will Jefferson was denied victory by five hundredths of a second in his track season debut, as the team captain was outleaned at the finish line by Queens' Zak Freeland, 8:17.55 to 8:17.60.
Flames newcomer Michael Ilesanmi came in fifth in the men's long jump, thanks to a season-best 22-1 leap.
