The Flames returned to the Media Room in the Liberty Football Center on Tuesday to recap their first-ever FBS conference victory with a win over New Mexico State and previewed Liberty's first road game of 2023 at Buffalo.
Â
Along with Flames' head coach Jamey Chadwell, the media spoke with wide receiver Aaron Bedgood, a transfer from Coastal Carolina, and linebacker Tyren Dupre, Liberty's leading tackler in 2023 (21).
Liberty is 2-0 all-time against the Bulls, with both wins coming at Williams Stadium. Jamey Chadwell is 2-0 coaching versus Buffalo, recording wins with Coastal Carolina in 2021 and 2022.
Â
The Flames' season-opening 34-24 home win over Bowling Green on Sept. 2 improved their all-time record versus MAC opponents to 6-10, including 4-1 during Liberty's FBS era (2018-present).
Â
Off to a 2-0 start as Liberty's head coach, Jamey Chadwell will look to join Sam Rutigliano (1989) as the only head coaches ever to win each of their first three games with the Flames.
Â
Liberty QB Kaidon Salter is coming off arguably his most impressive game to date during last Saturday's 33-17 triumph over New Mexico State. He threw for a career-high 276 yards and two TDs and also ran the ball for two more scores.
Â
Other offensive standouts included RB Quinton Cooley with his first 100-yard game (20 carries, 106 yards) and WR CJ Daniels with his third career 100-yard outing (4 catches, 129 yards, 1 TD).
Â
Liberty recorded three takeaways against New Mexico State (two INTs, one fumble). Through two weeks, the Flames rank No. 1 nationally for interceptions (7), takeaways (8) and turnover margin (+6).
