As the build-up continues toward the 2026 football season, Liberty has  announced its non-conference schedule and the date of its Homecoming Weekend game.
    Â
The Flames open the 2026 season with the next addition of the Battle of the Blue Ridge series. Liberty travels to Harrisonburg, Va., to face off against James Madison on Saturday, September 5 in both teams' season openers.
    Â
Last year, the pair of Commonwealth foes announced they would square off against each other 10 times over a 16-year span.
    Â
The Dukes took the Battle of the Blue Ridge trophy back to Harrisonburg with them last year. James Madison defeated Liberty 31-13 at Williams Stadium on September 20, 2025.
    Â
Liberty kicks off the home portion of its 2026 schedule against Gardner-Webb on Saturday, September 12. The following weekend, Liberty hosts Ball State on Saturday, September 19 at Williams Stadium during Family Weekend and College for a Weekend.
    Â
The Flames close out the non-conference portion of their schedule with a Thursday night matchup against former Big South rival Coastal Carolina in Conway, S.C., on September 24.
    Â
The last time Liberty and Coastal Carolina met on the gridiron, the Flames stopped the Chanticleers' undefeated season in 2020. Liberty secured its second-straight bowl game win  with a thrilling 37-34 overtime victory over No. 9 Coastal Carolina to win the 2020 FBC Mortgage Cure Bowl on December 26 in Orlando, Fla.
    Â
In addition to the Flames' non-conference schedule, Liberty has set the date for its annual Homecoming Weekend. The Flames will host a Conference USA team on Saturday, October 31 at Williams Stadium to cap off a weekend of celebration with their returning alumni to the Mountain.
