LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty sprinters Omari Lewis and Revell Webster are set to race on this year's biggest stage in track & field. The duo will compete on Trinidad and Tobago's men's 4 x 100 relay team at the World Athletics Championships, Friday and Saturday at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest, Hungary.
The men's 4 x 100 relay prelims will take place Friday at 1:30 p.m. Eastern on USA, and the final will follow Saturday at 3:40 p.m. on CNBC.
Lewis will close out a long and successful first year of track & field as a Liberty Flame, which began at the Liberty Kickoff on Dec. 2, 2022 and has included 43 races to date. The native of Arouca, Trinidad and Tobago raced to ASUN Conference titles in both the indoor 60 (program-record 6.70) and outdoor 100.
This will mark the second time Lewis has represented his country this summer. He previously placed fourth in both the 100 and 4 x 100 relay at the NACAC U23 Championships in San Jose, Costa Rica last month. During that meet's 100 semifinals, Lewis lowered his personal best to 10.22.
It will be a family affair for Lewis in Budapest, as his sister Akilah Lewis is part of Trinidad and Tobago's women's 4 x 100 relay quartet.
Webster is enrolling at Liberty for the first time this fall along with his sister Reese Webster, a transfer from Elon. The native of San Juan, Trinidad and Tobago is the youngest member of his nation's team competing in Budapest at 18 years old.
Webster won the Trinidadian U20 men's 100 title last month. Three weeks later, he finished one spot ahead of Lewis in third place in the Trinidadian men's 100 final, matching his personal best of 10.36 in the process.
