LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Paola Bueno punctuated a busy and successful week, Friday in Puebla, Mexico. The talented freshman broke the women's hammer program record with a 209-4 effort, clinching her third consecutive Mexican national title in the event.
Three days earlier, the 20-year-old from Nayarit, Mexico had thrown a meet-record 197-0 to capture the Mexican U23 women's hammer crown.
Friday's winning mark of 209-4 took down the Liberty record of 206-6 set by Dasiana Larson while winning the 2018 Big South Conference title in High Point, N.C. (May 11, 2018). It also shattered Bueno's own Liberty freshman record of 199-1 from the ASUN Championship in Jacksonville, Fla. on May 11.
Bueno's 209-4 performance established a new lifetime best. Her previous top mark (207-2) helped her win the silver medal at the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships in Cali, Colombia.
