Women’s Tennis Announces the Signing of Lemus

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty Head Coach Jeff Maren and the women's tennis team have announced the signing of Anika Lemus.
Lemus will join the Flames family for the 2024-25 academic year.
Anika Lemus | Guatemala City, Guatemala
A Guatemala native, Lemus made a name for herself in her home country. Lemus is currently the No. 1 ranked junior player in Guatemala, and she has been in the top three in the nation her whole career. She has her highest ITF ranking of No. 623 on Jan. 03, 2023.
Lemus has been a member of the Guatemala national team since she joined the U-14 squad. She has competed in national team events, including the 2021 Cop Billie Jean King Junior – North /Central America & Caribbean ITF Team Championship and the 2019 WJTC North/Central America & Caribbean ITF Team Championship.
In 2022, Lemus secured four doubles championships in events including the Santa Tecla ITF J4, San Jose ITF J5 and the Copa Herbalife Guatemala ITF J5.
"I chose Liberty University because they prioritize your well-being as a human first and then as an athlete and a student. I felt a strong sense of safety and peace," Lemus said of signing with Liberty. "I noticed that the team and the coaches are a caring family that respects and motivates each other to give their 100 percent every day. The campus facilities are amazing. the support that Liberty provides to its athletes is impressive, besides its strong academic programs.
"I am very excited to start this new chapter of my life with this incredible team," Lemus continued. "I can't wait to start training, competing, and giving my best to Liberty University! Go Flames!"
Lemus will join the Flames family for the 2024-25 academic year.
"Anika is going to fit into our team culture right away. During her visit she bonded with the girls and the coaches and showed us that she was a perfect match for us," Maren said. "Her passion for the game, work ethic and talent will also be a big plus for us on court.
