Liberty’s lone competitor on Thursday at the Texas Relays, Mackenzie Hainley got the Flames off to a good start at Mike A. Myers Stadium. She threw the javelin a season-best 151-2 for sixth place in Section B of the event.
The two-time defending ASUN women’s javelin champion, Hainley had opened her season with a victory at Saturday’s Virginia Open, reaching 148-11. Hainley bettered that mark twice on Thursday, including her opening throw of 151-2. As a result, the native of Denver, Pa., should be heading back to the NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet for the second consecutive season.
Hainley finished just shy of her lifetime best (154-5), achieved at the 2021 Texas Relays. She is the first ASUN Conference thrower to go over 150 feet in 2022.
