How It Happened
• Liberty claimed two of the three doubles contests to take the first point of the match for a 1-0 lead. The Flames' Nicaise Muamba and Rafael Marques Da Silva put the visitors over the top in the doubles session with their team-leading 10th doubles win, a 6-4 result over the Bisons' Pablo Caffarena and Maksim Bogdanovich.
• Liberty's No. 1 unit, Christiaan Worst and Deji Thomas-Smith, also secured a win. The duo defeated Jorge Ortegon and Pedro Uribe 6-3. The Bisons' one doubles triumph came on court three, a 6-4 win from Gonzalo Garcia-Nieto and Jake Penny versus Goncalo Ferreira and Thando Longwe-Smit.
• Reigning ASUN Player of the Week Marques Da Silva helped Liberty to a 2-0 lead in the match with his 6-2, 6-2 win against Ortegon at No. 2 singles. One court over (No. 3 singles), the Flames' Deji Thomas-Smith stretched the lead to three points by besting Bogdanovich 6-2, 7-6 (3).
• Lipscomb responded to the three-point deficit with victories in the No. 4 and No. 1 positions, respectively. Uribe of the Bisons knocked off the Flames' Worst in consecutive sets, 6-4, 7-6 (3). Lipscomb's top singles competitor, Caffarena, snapped Muamba's six-match winning streak. Caffarena prevailed 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, cutting Liberty's lead to one, 3-2.
• The Flames' No. 5 and 6 singles players, Longwe-Smit and Ferreira, provided the fourth and fifth points of the match for Liberty. Longwe-Smit earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory against Carlos Salas-Tulla to clinch the match, and Ferreira delivered a 6-0, 6-2 win as well over Penny.
• Since joining the lineup on March 4, Longwe-Smit is 5-1 in singles across three different spots in the lineup (1-0 No. 4, 2-0 No. 5, 2-1 No. 6).
• Liberty improves to 2-0 all-time versus Lipscomb.
Next Up
