CoSIDA Academic All-District Teams (Women's Track & Field/Cross Country)
Liberty senior Kat Bouton has been voted to the 2016-17 CoSIDA Academic All-District III team for women's track & field and cross country, it was announced today.
The team, organized by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), annually recognizes the top student-athletes in the country.
With her selection to the all-district team, Bouton is now eligible for selection to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ® team, which will be announced June 23.
Bouton is the Lady Flames' first CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree for women's track & field/cross country since former teammate Jacy Christiansen in 2015. Liberty's last four women's track & field/cross country Academic All-District award winners have been distance runners, beginning with Bouton's cousin, current assistant coach Rebekah Ricksecker (2008, 2009 & 2010).
Bouton, who recently graduated with a bachelor's degree in Teaching English as a Second Language, completed her undergraduate studies with a 3.97 GPA. The Flower Mound, Texas native was named 2016 Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year for women's cross country, becoming the first Lady Flame to win the award since 2010. Most recently, Bouton was included on the Big South All-Academic Team for women's outdoor track & field.
As a senior, Bouton contributed to Liberty's Big South Conference titles in women's cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field.
Bouton placed a career-best 16th at the 2016 Big South Cross Country Championships, serving as the Lady Flames' No. 7 runner. Her performance helped Liberty win its first Big South women's cross country title since 2012.
Bouton also scored points in both the 2017 Big South Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field Championships. She anchored the Lady Flames to third place in the indoor distance medley relay and came in seventh in the outdoor steeplechase final.
