Liberty junior Ryan Davis placed 33rd in the first round of the men's 400 hurdles, making him the Flames' top finisher on a sunny, breezy Thursday at the 2016 NCAA Division I East Preliminary Round meet at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Davis, the 48th and final competitor to qualify for this meet in the men's 400 hurdles, placed well above his seed with his time of 52.63. However, the Florida native failed to qualify for Friday's quarterfinal round.
Also on the track, Erin Edmond finished 41st in the women's 400 dash first round, clocking a time of 54.41 seconds. The 2016 Big South indoor and outdoor women's 400 champion did not advance to Friday's quarterfinals, though.
Dasiana Larson's NCAA Preliminary Round debut resulted in a 46th-place finish in the women's hammer, thanks to the sophomore's second-round throw of 162-8.
Carson Waters also made his first appearance at the NCAA Preliminary Round meet on Thursday, in his home state of Florida. However, the 2016 Big South indoor and outdoor men's pole vault runner-up missed on all three attempts at the opening height of 15-11.
Liberty's Friday slate of events will begin at noon with the men's javelin, featuring the duo of Steve Feister and Denzel Pratt. Fred Fulton will then throw the men's discus, beginning at 4 p.m.
