
Flames Drop Road Conference Tilt at Coastal Carolina

The Liberty Flames men's tennis squad dropped a 6-1 decision to Coastal Carolina this afternoon in Conway, S.C.
With the loss, Liberty falls one game below .500 with a 9-10 record. The Flames also slip to 3-4 in conference play this season. The Chanticleers improve to 18-3, including a perfect 8-0 Big South mark.
Coastal Carolina claimed the doubles point with wins from the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions.
Liberty's lone doubles win came from the No. 2 slot as David Bush and Diego Castano upended Rick Timmerman and Luiz Faria, 6-3.
The Chanticleers carried the momentum into singles play, notching the first five singles victories of the match, taking a 6-0 lead over the Flames. The overall match was clinched when Faria defeated Jason Burgess in the No. 6 singles position, 6-0, 6-2 to give the Chanticleers a 4-0 lead.
Liberty's lone singles win was provided from Sam Matheson in the No. 1 singles position. Matheson advanced four spots this week in the ITA National ranking, moving to No. 102. The New Zealand native defeated Jabor Al-Mutawa in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4 to end the match and solidify the event with the 6-1 final.
Liberty will conclude its regular season tomorrow with a conference bout against Campbell at 2 p.m. in Buies Creek, N.C.
