The Big South Conference concluded its 2015 Big South Football Media Day events in Atlanta, Ga., last week, officially kicking off the 14th season the conference has sponsored football.
During the two-day event, head coaches and players ran through a series of media interviews with national, regional and local media members. The Liberty Flames Sports Network was on site providing today's video interview with Flames Head Football Coach Turner Gill.
Gill is entering his fourth season at Liberty, following three straight seasons where he led the Flames to a Big South title. Last year, Liberty upended No. 1 Coastal Carolina during the final week of the regular season, a win that gave Liberty the Big South's automatic bid to the NCAA FCS Playoffs.
During their first-ever NCAA FCS Playoff run, the Flames knocked off No. 15 James Madison, 26-21, in the first round, before falling to No. 5 Villanova, 29-22, during their second round contest.
Gill was rewarded for his coaching prowess in 2014 when he was named the Bobby Ross Coach of the Year Award winner. The honor is annually bestowed upon the top Division I coach in the Commonwealth of Virginia (both FBS and FCS coaches).
Gill was also selected the top Division I coach in Virginia by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID), the first for any head football coach in program history.
