Liberty's Ken Ritchey (men's pole vault) and Jocelyn Williams (women's hammer) each notched runner-up finishes at the Duke Twilight, Wednesday at Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium.
Men's Day One Recap
Ritchey and Duke's Connor Hall were the only two competitors in the 17-member men's pole vault field to successfully clear 16-0.75. Both made it over on their third attempt, necessitating a jump-off for first place. Hall cleared 16-4.75 while Ritchey did not, giving the Blue Devil first place in the event. Ritchey has now sailed over 16 feet four times during the 2015 outdoor campaign.
Redshirt junior David Scouten hurled the discus a personal-best 168-0 on his second attempt, good for third place. Teammate Tim Abbott finished fifth at 151-11.
Freshman Seth Lewis came in eighth in the men's hammer, with a top mark of 133-3.
Women's Day One Recap
Williams saved her best hammer effort for the sixth and final round, measuring 188-4. The redshirt senior finished second overall and first among collegiate athletes, trailing only multiple-time Jamaican national champion Natalie Grant's winning throw of 194-5.
Williams also threw the discus on Wednesday, placing seventh at 149-0. Jennifer Smith followed in ninth place, with her top mark stretching the tape to 146-11.
Senior Abigail Flower came in sixth in the women's 100 dash final in 11.94 seconds, after posting a time of 11.74 during the preliminaries.
Jessie Glynn competed in the women's pole vault but was unable to make it over the bar at her opening height of 12-3.5.
The Duke Twilight will conclude on Thursday, with competition beginning at 3 p.m. at Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium. Liberty's lone event will be the women's 4 x 100 relay, set for a 6 p.m. start. The Lady Flames' 4 x 100 quartet of Enajah Winbush, Abigail Flower, Kate Flower and Olivia Davis sped to a program-record time of 45.81 during their last competition at this facility, the Duke Invitational on April 11.
