The Liberty quartet of Dana Mercer, Abigail Flower, Olivia Davis and Kate Flower captured the women's 4 x 100 relay title on Thursday at the Duke Twilight at Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium.
The Lady Flames clocked a time of 45.87 seconds, edging runner-up Winston-Salem State (45.99) for first place. It marked the second-fastest 4 x 100 effort in program history, trailing only the school-record 45.81 clocking posted by Enajah Winbush, Abigail Flower, Kate Flower and Olivia Davis at the same facility, at the Duke Invitational on April 11.
Representing Anchored Elite, 2013 Liberty graduate Isaac Wendland and Liberty track & field graduate assistant Jaiden Brandt also performed well at the Duke Twilight. Wendland clocked a personal-best and Liberty alumni-record time of 1:49.90 for sixth place in the men's 800 on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Brandt placed fifth of 30 entrants during Wednesday evening's men's 5K, thanks to a personal-best time of 14:43.45.
Liberty will return to action at the 2015 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, May 14-16 at Vert Stadium in High Point, N.C. The men's squad will be aiming for its ninth consecutive team championship, while the Lady Flames are in search of their first Big South outdoor team title since 2013.
