In late March, Liberty cheerleading squad packed up and headed to their first STUNT tournament, hosted by Delaware.
STUNT was created by the NCAA Emerging Sport initiative to provide opportunities for college cheerleaders to compete in a fast-paced and intense environment. STUNT is exclusively a women's spring sport and highlights the athleticism of female athletes by removing the crowd-leading element of cheerleading, focusing instead on the technical and athletic components of partner stunting, pyramids, basket tosses, group jumps, and tumbling. Liberty's STUNT team consists of 20 women who have trained rigorously since January.
Liberty played four STUNT games on Saturday, March 21, against Michigan State, Davenport, Saint Joseph's and Delaware. Their record currently stands at 2-2, defeating Michigan State, and Saint Joseph's.
"Our talented team worked very hard for this tournament and I was excited to see them compete against teams which are already seasoned veterans with this sport," Raina Brooks, Liberty's STUNT coach stated. "I am very proud of our 2-2 record, and I am eager for the upcoming STUNT season."
"Our STUNT ladies have moved our entire cheerleading program up a notch," head cheerleading coach Jordan Ballard added. "They love competing for Liberty and representing the Lord, and we look forward to more games and tournaments next season."
