Junior Jocelyn Williams continued an impressive showing by the Liberty throwers at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays, boosting her personal-best discus mark to 163-10 on Saturday.
Williams, who entered the day with a personal-best of 154-5, threw all three of her legal attempts well past that mark. She reached 159-4, 160-0 and finally 163-10 on her sixth and final toss, earning a third-place finish in Section B of the women's discus.
Williams now ranks No. 2 on the Big South women's discus list this season, just two inches behind teammate Mychelle Cumings' conference-leading mark of 164-0. That throw came on Friday, when Cumings placed fifth in Section A of the event.
Also on Saturday, Leonard Robbins, Roderick Spruel, Tarell Williams and Andre Washington became the seventh-fastest men's 4 x 200 quartet in program history with their 1:25.83 clocking. The Flames finished 13th overall in the event.
Liberty will now prepare to host its first meet at the newly-renovated Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex. The Liberty Collegiate Invitational will christen the new-look facility, with action scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
