Flames Blank Oral Roberts, 7-0

The Liberty men's tennis team produced its third sweep of 2012, Monday, defeating Oral Roberts, 7-0, at the University of Tulsa's Case Tennis Complex.

The Flames improve to 4-3 for 2012, and are now 3-0 in neutral-site matches. The Golden Eagles drop to 1-6 with the loss.

Liberty had the advantage in doubles, as Oral Roberts only suited up five players, leading to a default in the No. 3 matchup. The Flames then secured the point with a win in the No. 2 slot, an 8-4 victory for Tristan Stayt and Shea Thomas over Parker Allen and Oscar Witzand.

In the No. 1 match, Siim Tuus and Giancarlo Lemmi claimed a 9-7 win over Nathaniel Avery and Alvaro Gutierrez.

Oral Roberts defaulted the No. 6 singles match to give the Flames a 2-0 lead.

Tuus once again led the Flames' charge from the lead singles match, as he picked up a two-set win over Gutierrez. After taking the opening set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (1), the Estonia native claimed the match, 6-2, in the second. The victory is Tuus' sixth of the season.

Thomas picked up the win in the No. 2 match, knocking off Allen in three sets. Despite dropping the opening set, 6-4, the sophomore rebounded, 6-1, 10-7 to take the win.

Liberty overwhelmed the Golden Eagles in the No. 3 through No. 5 matches, only surrendering a total of two games in the three matches.

Lemmi took a straight-set sweep over Witzand, 6-0, 6-0, while Harrell defeated Avery and Matt Slamecka defeated Matthew Prevost, both by 6-1, 6-0 counts. Harrell's victory increased his team-leading win streak to four matches.

The Flames will look to carry their momentum into tomorrow, when they face Oklahoma State in a 3 p.m. match at the Cowboys' DeBois Tennis Complex.
