The Flames begin their "second" season on Saturday when Liberty opens up Big South play against Gardner-Webb. Kickoff for the Homecoming Weekend game is set for 3:30 p.m.
Liberty has won its last five matchups with Gardner-Webb, winning by an average of 26.4 points per game during the five-game win streak. The Flames lead the overall series with the Runnin' Bulldogs, 9-8-1.
The game features two of the 15 remaining winless FCS programs in the country with both teams coming into the game with identical 0-4 overall records.
The Flames have scored nearly twice as many points this season than Gardner-Webb and rank No. 3 in the Big South in scoring offense (20.2 points per game). Gardner-Webb ranks No. 5 in the conference in scoring with a 12.0 per game scoring average.
Liberty holds a distinctive edge on the defensive side of the field, with the Flames ranking No. 2 in the league in scoring defense (28.2 points allowed per game). Gardner-Webb ranks last in the Big South with the Runnin' Bulldogs allowing 43.5 points per contest.
