
Flames Drop Season Opener

Despite earning the doubles point for an early lead, the Liberty men's tennis team dropped their season opener on Thursday to East Carolina, 5-2, at the Greenbrier Resort.
The Flames (0-1) opened the contest by taking the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches from East Carolina (1-0). Tristan Stayt and Giancarlo Lemmi defeated Stian Tvedt and Henrik Skalmerud, 8-6 in the No. 2 spot, while Mandeep Yadev and Piotr Kruk teamed up to earn a 9-7 victory over John Schmitt and Massimo Mannino, securing the doubles point for Liberty.
The Pirates took over during singles competition, taking wins in five of the six matches for the 5-2 overall win. Sophomore Siim Tuus scored the only victory in singles for the Flames, knocking off Jaroslav Horvath, 6-2, 7-5, in the No. 1 spot.
Liberty continues action today at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., facing Bluefield this morning.
