
Quartet of Coaches Headline Friday's Flames Club Luncheon

The next Flames Club Luncheon will be held on Friday, Oct. 1, at Noon in the Williams Football Operations Center (FOC). Football coach Danny Rocco, volleyball coach Shane Pinder, men's soccer coach Jeff Alder, and swimming coach Jake Shellenberger will be the featured speakers.
The cost to attend each of the six luncheons scheduled is $10 for members if purchased in advance, or $15 if available at the door. The cost for non-members is $15 if purchased in advance, or $20 if available at the door.
Advance purchases must be made by 5pm on the Tuesday before the scheduled luncheon by visiting the Flames Club page of the LibertyFlames.com website, calling 434-582-SEAT (7328), or visiting the Flames Ticket Office in the Vines Center.
Coach Danny Rocco is in his fifth season at Liberty, and owns a career record of 34-14 (.708) as the winningest football coach in LU history. He is a three-time Big South Coach of the Year, and has led the Flames to three consecutive conference championships.
Coach Shane Pinder is in his seventh season at the helm of the Flames Volleyball program, and is a two-time VaSid State Coach of the Year and was the 2008 Big South Coach of the Year. His teams have won three consecutive conference championships, while posting a 37-7 (.841) record against Big South competition from 2007-2009.
Coach Jeff Alder has a 38-20-6 (.655) conference record during his nine seasons leading the Liberty Men's Soccer team, and in 2007 led the Flames to their only Big South Championship and NCAA appearance. He has coached one NCAA All-American and two freshmen All-Americans, and has had five players taken in the MLS draft.
Coach Jake Shellenberger will lead the Women's Swimming team as it opens the 2010-11 season as Liberty's 20th NCAA program. Prior to coming to Liberty, he served three years as an assistant at Penn State, where he coached the program's first national champion and two Olympic Trials finalists.
The Flames Club is the channel through which individuals and businesses can financially support Liberty Athletics. The Flames Club had more than 1,300 members contribute $400,000 in 2009 to help strengthen the LU Athletics program. Membership begins at just $50, and members can enjoy preferred seating, parking, and pre-game dining privileges, based upon contribution level.
The Flames Club holds a monthly luncheon where members and guests can enjoy a great meal and hear from the Flames coaching staff. Future luncheons scheduled this season include Friday, 11/5; Thursday, 1/27; Thursday, 3/24; and Thursday, 5/12.
