Just two days before the start of the 2010 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Liberty head track & field coach Brant Tolsma sat down with Nick Pierce for a few minutes.
The pair discussed the Flames' recent performances, highlighted by a pair of school records which were set at the Merrill Lynch Track Classic, Saturday at Lynchburg College. Jaime Watson took down a long-standing program record in the women's 400-meter dash, and Melinda Bendik broke her own Liberty hammer standard.
The conversation then turned to the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, to be contested Thursday through Saturday in Charleston, S.C. Liberty will be attempting to make a bit of history by becoming the first Big South program ever to win men's and women's cross country, men's and women's indoor track & field and men's and women's outdoor track & field conference titles in a single athletic year. Tolsma has dubbed the potential achievement a "Double Triple."
The Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships will get underway Thursday at 10 a.m., with the start of the men's javelin.
